It has been the fruit and the favorite variety of Louis XIV. Growing at the orchard of the King by La Quintini.
With one method specialized to Argenteuil they were capable of obtaining figs under an opposing climate. Now a similar method is used in the United States by the amateurs of the fig tree
Two crops variety Fig tree of important development, exterior branches that fall to the ground. Wide leaves at three or five lobules.
Plentiful production of Flowers Figs of about 150 gr.
|Summer Fig is growing, 13-July-2007
|Fruit of grafted shape, resistant skin violet color with small white marks. Skin more darkened for the figs of summer. Eye broad enough, purple.
Neck short or without. Short stem of red color typical of this variety.
Flesh of strawberry light color, the part between the skin and the flesh has white color, not more than ¼.
The figs of summer are in little smaller with the color of the flesh more darkened.
Very good gustative quality, in my opinion equal or superior to the «Colar of Albatera»
No other commercial plantings have been made in California, as Dauphine can hardly compete successfully with other black figs such as Franciscana (Mission) for fresh-fruit shipping, and its quality dried is very inferior.
